Corporeality: Tracing the Evolution of the Human Body in Art and Technology

The project aims to trace the transformation of the representation of the human body from the 20th century to the present day through the development of photography, performance art and digital technologies.

The concepts of the body and corporeality have been interpreted in various ways throughout human history. Each era has created its own motifs of the aesthetic ideal of the human body in the form of canonical images and works of art that have served as a tool for defining the identity of self and otherness.

Since the advent of photography and its dissemination through the media, the relationship to the body has changed rapidly. The emergence of computerized images, augmented reality, and artificial intelligence has greatly increased the flow of new images, displacing materiality and diminishing the importance of physical presence compared to two-dimensional representations. This shift creates conditions for transforming not only the perception of corporeality but also the body itself.
